Digital Davis

What is Digital Davis?

Every student at GDHS is issued a laptop (HP360x) computing device which will store textbooks and be used to create, complete and turn in assignments, projects, research and much more. Devices are signed out to the students to use in and out of the classroom for the school year. All school access will be filtered through the district’s web filters, thus ensuring a safe online environment. Individual low cost damage/theft insurance will be offered to families.

What about Textbooks?

Students will learn from a variety of sources and develop critical literacy skills by considering multiple perspectives, bias and evidence. In addition to the laptops, teachers will be encouraged to use other primary source materials in the curriculum. Textbooks will be loaded on to the device in digital format.

Anytime Anywhere Learning

The entire nature of schooling is in the process of change. We must respond to the promise of emerging technology in order to prepare our youth for the future. Digital Davis provides a platform through which students can engage with this technology in school by means of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school structures.  This allows all to continue in academic pursuits outside of school hours. Digital schools all over the country have demonstrated that the work students produce on their own time often exceeds our wildest expectations.

A Collaborative Community

Teachers facilitate students’ academic pursuits.  Students work collaboratively with peers inside and outside of the school walls.  Students create projects and publications worthy of public distribution via print, audio or the World Wide Web. The quantity and quality of student writing, research and problem solving will increase dramatically. The synergistic effect of collaborative work will better prepare students for life after high school.

Increased Student Buy-in

A computationally-rich learning environment can provide all students unprecedented opportunities to demonstrate their intellectual competence and creativity. This will make students more productive members of the learning community and increase student achievement.

Preparing for the future

The laptops offer the potential today for students to engage in the real work of mathematicians, scientists, composers, filmmakers, authors and engineers. Computers are integral to the world of our students and it is incumbent upon us to build upon the skills, attitudes and interests they bring to us.
