AP Art History

Section 1, Part A includes five sets of multiple-choice questions based on an image or a pair of images presented as a full-color printed insert. Students have 20 minutes to answer the five sets of questions in Part A, with a suggested time of four minutes per set. Section 1, Part B includes discrete multiple choice questions; the total number varies from year to year for a sum of 115 multiple-choice questions in Section 1 and 2 combined. Total scores on the multiple-choice section are based on the number of questions answered correctly. Points are not deducted for incorrect answers and no points are awarded for unanswered questions.

Section II, the essay component of the exam, consists of eight free-response questions.  One free-response question requires students to incorporate a work of art from beyond the European tradition. Essay questions may require students to compare two works of art.
